Hi

For Office 2013, you can change it to a darker theme:

File>Option>General>Office theme.

We might also adjust the brightness of your display.

No you will need to use previous edition. Their "fix" only adjusts the borders. To recommend it as such is complete stupidity. Adjust your screen? Really, it is your product that is not functioning. I would have to turn my screen so low I would not be able to use it.

I agree, in my office I am being forced to use this too bright useless Office 2013. MS guys/management, is it that hard for you to release a darker theme? Its been over one year, nothing has been done! CRAZY!

Yes I am tottaly shocked that Microsoft can create something like this.

Even if I managed to adjust to the most gray background in MS Word, my eyes are totally sore and I get dizzy after working with this now in just 2 days. Everything is wrong with the layout actually.

Not only do you get "snow blind", font, colors, design everything makes it so hard to work and to do anything.

Every time MS do some changes to the office package it has been a step backward every time since the mS offrice 2003. Stupid changes that has no other reason than make it harder to work and keep a programmers job seems to be the trend.

But the eye strain is the worst. Seems taht nobody at MS is thinking about the user when they do things like this, but GOD..something must be done, we professional users can not have it like this!

Not to be rude, but this is not a solution, look at Visual Studio 2013 dark theme as reference.

I am forced to hack around windows theme service to force dark colors on Outlook 2013 to prevent it from giving me retinal migraine while working. This is not a solution as it may introduce security vulnerabilities to the whole system, we need a real dark theme, we have it on Visual Studio 2013, Microsoft is technically able to produce it.

We don't need a dark theme just for fun or because it's beautiful, there's some health issue behind using white backgrounds like Microsoft did on Office 2013.

The bright white background is still a real problem. I find I can no longer work a full shift without my eyes fatiguing and I need to stop. The body of the products needs a background color choice. I can already hear grumblings of workers comp issues. The new design is trendy but eye damaging. Hope someone is listening. As the workforce ages there will be more complaints and medical issues caused by this color scheme. The 3 options are simply not enough. Makes me want to de-install and go back to 2010. Any solution on anybody's radar?????
